· Brooklyn Coffee Roasters (again). We met up with my friend, Brian, to catch up. He gave us some recommendations for soup dumplings in Chinatown, which we'll have to take him up on next time we visit!

· Urban Rustic in Williamsburg. We both had breakfast for lunch. They also had kombucha on tap, which was a nice plus.

· Aska in Williamsburg. Our meticulous foodie friend, Joel, recommended this place to us, so it sounded like the right place to save up for a fancy meal. I didn't take any photos as my senses needed to be focused on this experience. Since Cole and I are both allergic to milk, they had to specially prepare a few of the dishes for us, but we wouldn't have known otherwise. We would stop talking mid-sentence sometimes, eating in silence because the food was so good! It was inventive and adventurous and it always rewarded the curious. It almost became a routine: they'd bring out the beautifully plated food, explain its unexpected ingredients, we take an incredulous bite, obtain enlightenment, and desperately try to eat the rest of the plate slowly as to make it last as long as possible. The imbibes were also notable as well. I enjoyed a cocktail spruce simple syrup (which made a repeat in our sorbet for dessert), which might be my new favorite thing. I pretty much love all things that taste/smell like the forest. My only criticism is that because the restaurant shares its space with a bar and a design studio, the music suited the bar best. It was all bands that I loved, but didn't quite match the experience the restaurant was trying to create. There was something about having lyrics that really obfuscated the intense focus wanted to wholly enjoy a crafted meal such as this.
